6 Best Comic-Con Trailers from Wonder Woman to Lego Batman
For many, the best thing about the often-dreary “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” was Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman. If the trailer unveiled at Comic-Con over the weekend is any indication, the lariat-wielding warrior princess with the invisible jet will dazzle audiences next year in her first full feature. It leads our top 5 roundup of trailers from the big gathering in San Diego.
1. Wonder Woman
Chris Pine brings his “Star Trek” swagger to “Wonder Woman” but the film belongs to Gadot, whose Diana Prince slashes her sword, deflects bullets with her shield and dishes off snappy one-liners, bringing some much-needed lightness to a DC movie universe weighted down by the brooding “Batman v Superman.” The movie opens in June 2017.
2. Suicide Squad
Women took the spotlight at Comic-Con. Along the big news that Brie Larson will star in “Captain Marvel,” the first female standalone film in Marvel’s movie universe, Margot Robbie drew attention for “Suicide Squad,” her Harley Quinn rivaling Will Smith‘s Deadshot for the best moments in the new trailer. The film opens Aug. 5.
3. Justice League
Wonder Woman also appears in the Comic-Con trailer for “Justice League,” coming out in November 2017, joining newcomers Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg. But the big reveal was Ben Affleck finally lighting-the-heck-up as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
4. Doctor Strange
Benedict Cumberbatch emerges from a car crash with a very unique view of life in “Doctor Strange.” In the Comic-Con trailer, Tilda Swinton‘s Ancient One introduces Cumberbatch’s neurosurgeon to a mind-blowing world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. The movie hits theaters Nov. 6.
5. The Lego Batman Movie
So the little Lego Batman gets a little Lego kid, totally by accident, and now the reluctant superhero dad has to put aside his ego and teach the tyke some life lessons, in this funny Comic-Con trailer. Will Arnett voices the caped one in “The Batman Movie,” out in February 2017.
6. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
J.K. Rowling expands the Harry Potter magical world to 1920s America in “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” with the Comic-Con trailer assuring Potter fans there’ll be lots of wands and imaginative creatures flying and stomping through the movie, starring Eddie Redmayne and opening Nov. 16.
