New faces, old faces and comically painted faces return for Alice as she steps–rather plunges from a sky-high doorway–back into Wonderland in “Through the Looking Glass.”
In the first full-length trailer released Thursday, Mia Wasikowska’s heroine Alice finds more colorful characters in newcomers Zanik Hightopp, played by Rhys Ifans, as the Mad Matter’s father and Sacha Baron Cohen as Time himself.
Also along for the tea party are returners from Tim Burton’s 2010 “Alice in Wonderland,” Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, who finds himself in need of help from Alice. “Please, sir, she says in the trailer, “the Mad Hatter is in danger.”
The heroine appears to get some help–or distractions–from Anne Hathaway’s White, the Cheshire Cat (voiced by Alan Rickman), and comes face-to-much-smaller-face with the short tempered Red Queen, played by Helena Bonham Carter.
Directed by James Robin, the sequel, presented in Digital 3D, Real D 3D and IMAX 3D, opens May 27, 2016.
