Best Director Oscar Nominee: Alejandro G. Inarritu

This time last year, Alejandro G. Inarritu was named Best Director at the Oscars for “Birdman.”

But will his period drama “The Revenant,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, earn him Oscar gold the second time around?

He’s got tough competition in the directing category from filmmakers like Adam McKay for the financial crisis drama “The Big Short.”

George miller for post-apocalyptic thriller “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Lenny Abrahamson for kidnapping drama “Room.”

And Tom McCarthy for “Spotlight,” the drama plucked from the headlines about journalists who exposed a catholic church sex scandal.

With recent victories from the Directors Guild of America, Golden Globes and BAFTAS, it appears that the Best Director Oscar is Alejandro G. Inarritu’s to win.
