“Rocky” actor Carl Weathers remembered his late costar Tony Burton for his “talent” and “intensity” in a moving Twitter tribute.
Honoring the man who played his character Apollo Creed’s trainer–and later Rocky Balboa’s manager–he wrote on Thursday, “Sad news. RIP Tony Burton. His intensity and talent helped make the Rocky movies successful. #BePeace.”
Burton died age 78, his sister Loretta Kelly confirmed to BBC, adding that he had been hospitalized several times in the past year and never got the opportunity to see the “Rocky” franchise reboot “Creed.”
Burton starred in six of Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky” movies and also appears in flashback scenes via stock footage from previous “Rocky” films in “Creed.”
He also appeared in “The Shining” and “Stir Crazy.”
