Donnie’s Yen’s megawatt smile says it all about his latest gig.
But to hear it from his mouth, it sounds like he’s still surprised that he will be changing the face of a franchise at a time when greater diversity is demanded from Hollywood.
“I’m very flattered and honored to be able to be the first Chinese actor to be invited to be one of the main cast of ‘Star Wars.'” he tells Made in Hollywood.
Sitting beside his “IP Man 3” costar Mike Tyson, the boxing champ’s reaction was awe. “You’re in ‘Star Wars!'” Tyson responds, slapping his own knee. Yen clarifies that it will be the follow-up to J.J. Abram’s “The Force Awakens,” which will be released Dec. 15, 2017.
“I can’t wait to bring my children to the premiere,” Yen adds.
Yen and Tyson’s chemistry is far less playful in their new martial arts film ‘IP Man 3.”
It follows Yen as he takes on several enemies and shows off his impressive mastery of deadly weapons and fighting maneuvers against a haul of fighters. One of his most fierce opponents is Tyson, whose punches, Yen says, “feels like a tornado, a storm coming at me.”
