Nearly a year ahead of its release, the trailer for “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” made a magical debut Tuesday.
Opening the scene is Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander heard casting a spell: “Lumos maxima,” which shoots a blast of light from a wand It is a spell familiar with “Harry Potter” fans, of which “Fantastic Beasts” also shares a scribe and creator in J.K. Rowling.
Next, Katherine Waterston’s character addresses a court with a sense of alarm in her tone: “Yesterday, a wizard entered New York with a case. A case full of magical creatures, and unfortunately some have escaped.”
“Fantastic Beasts” sees Redmayne in 1926 New York City as a magizoologist who makes a layover in the Big Apple, but things go wrong when he opens his briefcase and some of his creatures escape.
Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Gemma Chan, and Jon Voight also star in the film that takes place within the Harry Potter universe ahead of his birth.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” opens on November 18, 2016.
