Henry Cavill ‘Geeking Out’ While Suited Up in Superman Costume

It was surreal to play Superman!

Henry Cavill pretty much had to pinch himself suited up as the iconic superhero in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

“Half the time, you forget that you’re Superman,” he told Made in Hollywood. “You’re just geeking out [because] of a Batman being in front of you.”

Most importantly, “I [was] just geeking out and hoping that he didn’t accidentally hit me because he can’t see very well with his bat helmet on,” the actor explained of playing opposite Ben Affleck.

Henry Cavill Says Superman Costume Was ‘Probably More Comfortable’ Than Batman’s Gear

Speaking of the Superman costume, Cavill, who trained for the role for “a total of about 10 months,” went into the depths of the complicated getup.

“[My costume] was more flexible than Ben’s,” he explained. “Ben’s had a different kind of design and build to it.” Cavill’s height puts him at 6’1″ to Affleck’s 6’4″.

Continuing, “I don’t know the ins and outs. Mine was probably more comfortable, I would say. It had a bit more of a give and stretch to it, and I was fortunate for that. But at the same time, during the weather scenes in the middle of the midwestern winter, it was less comfortable … It’s never easy to throw the suit back on, just because of the training required to put the suit back on.”

Despite its difficulty, Cavill has a special appreciation for the iconic Superman costume, saying, “I have developed a deep affection for this character and I was very keen to get back into it.”

Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night talk show, Gal Gadot, who keeps the peace between Batman and Superman, recalled how it felt to try on the Wonder Woman costume after nailing the audition.

“I was so happy and so grateful and thankful for being there and doing this role, that I didn’t say anything about the fact that it was so tight and I literally could not breathe,” she explained. “I was just trying to get myself together. But I didn’t say anything.”

The Zack Snyder-directed action film, which also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther hits theaters on Friday.
