Jake Johnson Says 'Everybody Improvised Their Part' in 'Digging for Fire'

Oh, the beauty of starring in an indie flick.

“Digging for Fire” star and co-writer Jake Johnson says much of what viewers see in the film was left to the discretion of its cast.

“The style and the feeling of the movie is really the credit of the actors and [director] Joe [Swanberg] on this,” Johnson tells Made in Hollywood. “We had an outline. We knew what we needed to do, but everybody improvised their part. Every actor coming into this movie was given a lot of freedom to not only say what they want, but also influence the scenes in a way that they wanted.”

The Sundance-premiered movie, which will be released worldwide on Aug. 25, centers around the discovery of a dead body, and the different adventures a somewhat troubled husband and wife go on separately in one weekend. It also stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Orlando Bloom, Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell.
