‘Lethal Weapon’: Fox TV Pilot Finds Its Mel Gibson

There’s fresh casting news for Fox’s TV adaptation of the hit “Lethal Weapon” movies.

“Rectify” and “24” alum Clayne Crawford has been assigned the coveted role of Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs (originally played by Mel Gibson in the film series), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Lethal Weapon’: Damon Wayans Cast in Danny Glover Role

“In Living Color” alum Damon Wayans Sr. has already been cast as his partner in fighting crime Roger Murtaugh (originally played by Danny Glover).

The McG-directed project centers around Crawford’s character moving to Los Angeles to start fresh after losing his wife and baby. He then gets partnered up with an LAPD detective played by Wayans, who must avoid stress after recently suffering a heart attack. There’s no telling how TV censors will get around Glover’s famous line in the “Lethal Weapon” films: “I’m too old for this s—t.”

Fox’s “Lethal Weapon” also stars “Fast and Furious” actress Jordana Brewster, “Girlfriends” star Golden Brooks and “Mad Men” alum Kevin Rahm. Matt Miller (“Chuck,” “Forever”), Dan Lin (“The Lego Movie”) and Jennifer Gwartz are executive producers on the project.
