'Mad Max' Sequel May Focus on Charlize Theron's Heroine

Charlize Theron as “Mad Max” heroine Imperator Furiosa may kick butt again.

Describing her backstory as “really interesting,” “Mad Max: Fury Road” director George Miller tells Entertainment Weekly said that after repeated viewings of the hit actioner, the interest from fans in seeing a sequel centered around her past has been overwhelming.

“The audience is picking up a lot about Furiosa — or enough to intrigue,” he said. “She’s a pretty compelling character so it would be great to tell her story.”

Miller said Furiosa’s background story is hardly referenced in “Fury Road” because “this movie is on the run; people don’t have much time for recreational talk. But you have a sense of her having gone through stuff. That’s what the film is trying to do. You’re trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying.”

Previously, Theron told EW that her commitments as a mother are her priority, so reprising the role would only happen under the right circumstances.

It seems Miller agrees with his star. He explained to EW that his vision for a sequels is “something with not too much technical difficulty.” Adding, “something more performance-based and so on, just to clear the exhaust.”
