'Smosh: The Move' Hits Netflix, and More September Releases

smosh-the-movie

There’s a mix of critically praised and panned gems coming to Netflix in September — plus the debut film by the Smosh Bros.

Among the highlights, Stephen Frears’ 2013 Academy Award Best Picture nominee “Philomena,” starring Judi Dench, Michelle Fairley and Steve Coogan, will make its way to the streaming platform. The drama, based on real events, scored nods for Dench in the Best Actress category and Coogan for Best Adapted Screenplay.  Actor Omar Sharif died on July 10, but his best known role in “Lawrence of Arabia” heads to Netflix in a restored edition. Though Idris Elba’s name continues to get thrown into the mix as a potential Bond successor, you can catch him alongside Naomie Harris – 007’s Moneypenny – as his wife Winnie in “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.”

For laughs consider Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married?, ” which stars Janet Jackson, Malik Yoba and Sharon Leal, and YouTube stars Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla’s “Smosh: The Movie” – released digitally last month – debuts for streaming as well.
