Regina Hall, Morris Chestnut Star in Thriller When the Bough Breaks
John and Laura Taylor seemed to have everything — nice house, nice cars, perfect marriage.
This being a movie, you know they’re headed for trouble.
“No one has everything,” says Morris Chestnut, who plays John in the thriller “When the Bough Breaks,” out Sept. 9. “Everyone has a want and desire for something. There’s nothing perfect in anyone’s life.”
In this case, the couple can’t have a child on their own, so they hire a surrogate. “They’ve decided to expand their family,” says Regina Hall, who plays Laura. “I think they made a choice there that goes wrong.”

That’s putting it mildly. Anna the surrogate (Jaz Sinclair) develops a dangerous fixation on John. As tensions rise and the stakes become deadly, Hall’s character must summon strength she never knew she had.
“She’s already at the start of the movie been through an emotional roller coaster just by her inability to conceive,” Hall tells Made in Hollywood reporter Julie Harkness Arnold. “It’s fantastic that does has that much trust (in her husband). There is a moment of a flicker of doubt. … Their relationship really is that strong. I think that’s a big part of her strength.”
As Chestnut says: “A lot of little messages in this movie.”
