The good folks at Disney and “Star Wars” have heard your pleas and will now take your money.
After complaints of sexism over the omission of the lead female character from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in toys and games, a new wave of Rey-inspired merchandise will be hitting shelves, including action figures, EW.com reports.
There will even be a “Rey gun” that shoots soft Nerf projectiles.
And, of course, Rey will be coming to the “Star Wars” Monopoly game.
The missing Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) had perplexed and angered fans, who launched a social media campaign with the #WheresRey hashtag. Even “The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams spoke out last week.
“It seems preposterous and wrong that the main character of the movie is not well represented in what is clearly a huge piece of the ‘Star Wars’ world in terms of merchandizing,” he said. “I read that she wasn’t in the Monopoly game and was quickly making phone calls about this because if it were true — and it is true, and now Hasbro, of course, has said they’re going to put Rey in — it doesn’t quite make sense why she wouldn’t be there. She’s somewhat important in the story.”
The Force, it seems, has indeed awakened.
