Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Debuts in ‘Captain America: Civil War’
“Hey everyone!” is an uncharacteristically cheerful greeting for Spider-Man.
In his web-slinging debut in the latest “Captain America: Civil War” trailer released Thursday, the hero played by Tom Holland steals away Captain America’s (Chris Evans) shield in a battle scene featuring new and returning members of the Marvel Universe.
The 19-year-old was announced last year as the next Peter Parker/Spider-Man to reboot the franchise’s sixth installment, in theaters on July 28, 2017. Previously the role was played by Andrew Garfield in 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and Tobey Maguire in a “Spider-Man” trilogy from 2002-2007. Holland is best known for his performances in 2012’s “The Impossible,” and the TV series “Wolf Hall.”
The British star’s soft debut in the “Civil War” shows what some fans described as Spider-Man’s “unfinished” CGI-enhanced costume that features striking red and blue colors and animated narrowing eyes.
Spider-Man Joined By Ant-Man in First Marvel Crossover Appearances
Other highlights from the clip include Black Panther showcasing his impenetrable medieval metal body armor that blocks a hail of bullets; Chadwick Boseman, who stars as the first black superhero in a mainstream comic book, makes his appearance in the crossover ahead of the Black Panther movie’s full-length feature debut in 2018; and Ant-Man makes a spectacular crossover debut in a battle scene. Paul Rudd’s tiny hero shrinks to the size of an ant and mounts Hawkeye’s (Jeremy Renner) arrow to launch himself through the air.
“Captain America: Civil War” opens May 6.
