‘Star Wars’ Rumor: Is Luke Skywalker Rey’s Father?

“Star Wars” fans have gone wild over comments Mark Hamill made when he praised his “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” costar Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey.

Although the comments appear to be without much subtext, some speculators believe the Luke Skywalker actor dropped cryptic clues that hinted at his character being the father of Ridley’s heroine Rey.

Speaking at the Oxford Union, he said “Daisy is incredible, so genuine, appealing, loveable, she beams, she has a wonderful charisma – I adore her,” adding, “she’s my daughter’s age – and that’s how I relate to her.”

After the audience “gasped,” reports The Sun (via Digital Spy) he clarified: “I don’t mean anything by that. As actors, that’s how I relate to that.”

Hamill: Some ‘Star Wars’ Fans Could Identify With Gay Luke Skywalker

Hamill recently made comments that he supported his character Luke Skywalker being gay.

“If you think Luke is gay, of course he is,” he said. Hamill added that he heard “The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams say that an openly gay “Star Wars” character was inevitable.

“But now fans are writing and ask all these questions, ‘I’m bullied in school… I’m afraid to come out’. They say to me, ‘Could Luke be gay?’ I’d say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer.”

Adding, “You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves.”

Hamill originated Luke Skywalker in 1977’s George Lucas-helmed “Star Wars” and reprised the role in 2015’s sequel “The Force Awakens.”

The J.J. Abrams-directed “The Force Awakens” earned more than $926 million domestic in its Dec. 28 release and $2.05 billion worldwide. The repacking of the hit sequel will be available for home viewing early on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on April 1, and on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on April 5.
