Why Justin Timberlake Thinks Anna Kendrick Didn’t Like Working with Him in Trolls
In the animated feature “Trolls,” Anna Kendrick gets to show off her beautiful singing voice in songs with her costar Justin Timberlake, but she insists the music didn’t come easily.
“I would honestly get so excited doing a dialogue session,” she tells Made in Hollywood reporter Kylie Erica Mar. “I would come out of the dialogue sessions feeling really energized. And the music stuff is not something that I am as comfortable with. I would feel more nervous doing the music stuff. But the dialogue session would put such a huge smile on my face.”
To which Timberlake replies: “So I think what you’re saying is you mostly like working by yourself and not with me.”
With a straight face, Kendrick says, “I mostly like working without Justin.”
But Seriously, Anna Kendrick Says Justin Timberlake Was a Great Musical Mentor in Trolls
Which, of course, is completely untrue.
“I had such a great experience working with Justin,” Kendrick says. “The nature of it is very intimidating, but he’s very good at directing your voice and you obviously trust him implicitly. He just gives like very clear simple direction and makes it feel like this isn’t a huge deal, which is a talent in itself to make somebody who’s not a musician come in and work with somebody who’s known for music and make them feel at ease. ”
All that instruction obviously paid off. Take one look at their “True Colors” duet below:
