Tom Hiddleston the Next James Bond after Thor 3?
This much is known: Tom Hiddleston is reuniting with Chris Hemsworth to play Marvel villain Loki in “Thor 3.”
So is it possible that Hiddleston will stop playing Loki after “Thor: Ragnarok” in November 2017 and become the next 007?
It may require plot twists worthy of a spy thriller, but enough signs have emerged to make this all a very real possibility.
Tom Hiddleston Drops Hints He’s Done as Loki
First of all, Hiddleston, currently appearing as Hank Williams in the biopic “I Saw the Light,” suggests that his Loki days are over.
“’Thor 3′ will be cool because I’ve not done it for four years,” he tells the Daily Beast. “I love working with Chris. This will be my last time out of the gate.”
Now, when pressed, Hiddleston backpedals.
“I don’t know! Honestly, I don’t know,” he says (the Daily Beast tells us it’s with a shrug.) “They haven’t got their ducks in a row yet. They make it up as they go along.”
What Tom Hiddleston Says About James Bond Movies
The Bond speculation stems from an interview Hiddleston gave to the UK’s Sunday Times, rhapsodizing about the franchise.
“I simply love the theme tune, the tropes, and the mythology,” he told the paper. “I love the whole thing. If it ever came knocking, it would be an extraordinary opportunity.”
This stands in stark contrast to Craig who couldn’t stop hating on Bond – even while promoting “Spectre” last year.
Hiddleston also more or less has been auditioning for Bond in the AMC miniseries “The Night Manager.” He goes so far in one episode to riff on Bond in a bar scene by ordering … a Vodka martini. See below.
Of course there’s the little issue of his friend and fellow Brit Idris Elba, who could also be on the Bond shortlist.
But then Hiddleston is never shy about a challenge. He’s now strummin’ and drinkin’ and eventually dyin’ in the Williams movie, costarring with Elizabeth Olsen in role as far from Bond as rural Alabama is from London but one which he jumped at.
“It was a whole other silhouette, but I found that fascinating as an actor,” he said of donning the cowboy hats and fringe jackets as the country star. “I think as an actor I get excited by foreign territory.”
