X-Men: Apocalypse Star Jennifer Lawrence on Mystique Feeling Maternal
Are we gearing up for X-Babies?
Jennifer Lawrence shows another shade of blue for Mystique in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” her shape-shifter beginning to mutate in a more mature direction.
“She’s starting to become a little less rebellious and see the world in broader way,” Lawrence tells Made in Hollywood reporter Kylie Erica Mar. “Maybe she’s getting a little maternal.”
Lawrence’s costar James McAvoy, who plays X-Men leader Charles “Professor X” Xavier, jokes he may know why.
“Body clock’s ticking?” he asks. “Thinking about having a little blue baby?”
Lawrence sighs, “I sound like my mother.”
X-Men: Apocalypse Has Jennifer Lawrence Back in the Makeup Chair for Mystique Transformation
Returning to Mystique means returning to the makeup chair for Lawrence, who played the character in “X-Men: First Class” (Rebecca Romijn had the role in three previous X-Men movies), only now Lawrence gets to blue a lot faster.
“They’ve really worked on the process so it’s streamlined,” she says. “They’ve cut the time in half and it’s a lot less brutal. I wish I could just turn blue. My life would be so much easier.”
“X-Men: Apocalypse,” opening May 27, has the all-powerful mutant Apocalypse (played by Oscar Isaac of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) coming out of a sleep lasting thousands of years in the mood the create a new world order, recruiting Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and other mutants. Lawrence and McAvoy lead a team of young X-Men to try to stop Apocalypse from destroying mankind.
Lawrence could have used a little of Mystique’s powers at Monday night’s London premiere when the actress suffered yet another red-carpet stumble.
Dazzling in a revealing white Christian Dior dress with cut-outs, Lawrence made a sharp right turn to sign autographs for fans when her platform Jimmy Choos betrayed her. She teetered briefly before regaining her balance, flashing a megawatt smile.
Jennifer Lawrence Also Stumbled at Oscars, Hunger Games Premiere
She previously fell while accepting the Oscar for Best Actress in 2012 and again in 2014 as she made her way to the Academy Awards. Then last November, her strappy heels betrayed her again when she took a tumble at the premiere of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” in Madrid.
